Just a post to let you know that Microsoft has released Windows 7 as a Public Beta. I’ll be posting on my usage of it and the features that I discover.
As of today, I’ve been using it almost totally exclusively on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A105-S2194 from Wal-Mart). And I’ve switched between it and Vista on my desktop (although I’m posting this blog from Windows 7).
If you download the beta, the first thing that you will notice is virtually every window has a “Submit Feedback” link in the upper-right hand corner. Microsoft wants to know what works and what doesn’t work. And they want your suggestions for how to improve the Operating System.
The only SKU that’s available right now is Ultimate. Microsoft hasn’t revealed what alternate SKU’s will be available. When they do, I’ll post them here, along with their features.
As for how this compares to Vista, well…. On my laptop, I had the option of upgrading from XP Media Center 2005 to Vista (which I didn’t do). With Windows 7, I have Aero Glass, and all of the features from the high-end versions of Vista. And they all work great. The little that I’ve played with it on my desktop, it’s pretty similar or better than Vista.
Tomorrow, I’ll talk about the taskbar and the changes there. If you’ve read any of the reviews, they hit the taskbar pretty hard. I’m going to show you why you shouldn’t judge a book by the cover someone else makes for it.
Have a great day:)
