“Bill Pytlovany” discusses the problems with Automatic Updates and connecting a new computer (Windows) to the Internet.
While I think that you should have your updates set to Automatically Download and Install, Bill has some good points and a very good alternative recommendation.
If you’re contemplating the purchase of a new PC or laptop, then I suggest doing some research first. Find out what updates are available for the computer’s OS, and download the installers (standalone) to your current system. Burn them to a disk, and use that to update the new computer BEFORE you connect it to the Internet.
Then make sure the first place you go is to get updates for the OS (in case they’ve released some in the days since you made your disk).
If you don’t want to do the research yourself, then take it to a computer store that will do the updating for you. If they’re worth the time, they’ll set the sysetm up for you (software related) and walk you through how to keep it clean and protected.
Have a great day:)
